Your social ads open in the wrong browser.
Instagram, Facebook and TikTok open your store inside their own built-in browser, where Apple Pay, saved passwords and autofill often don't work. Escape the Link moves shoppers to Safari or Chrome as soon as they land.
Covers every link shoppers tap, in every app

The in-app browser looks normal. Checkout isn't.
Most taps on social ads, bio links and stories never reach a real browser. They stay inside the app, in a stripped-down browser the shopper didn't choose.
Apple Pay goes missing
On iPhone, Apple Pay is switched off when an app injects its own code into the page, and social apps do. Shoppers are asked to type a card number instead.
Saved details don't fill
Passwords, addresses and cards saved in Safari or Chrome aren't available. Every field gets typed by hand on a phone keyboard.
Shoppers start signed out
The in-app browser keeps its own cookies. Accounts and sessions from the shopper's usual browser aren't there.
Same shopper, two checkouts.
The page is identical. What the shopper can do with it isn't.
- Card number typed by hand
- Email and address typed again
- Signed out of your store
- Pays with Face ID
- Saved details fill in
- Already signed in, as usual
Set up in two minutes. Nothing to change in your ads.
Escape the Link runs on your store, not on your links. Every link that points to your store is covered, including the ones already live.
Install from the Shopify App Store
No code, no theme edits.
Turn it on in your theme editor
Switch on Escape the Link under App embeds, then save.
Test it from your phone
Send yourself a test link in an Instagram message. A debug panel shows what was detected.
What happens when a shopper taps.
All of it runs on the shopper's phone, in the first moments of the page load.
- Detect
A small inline script in your theme's
<head>recognises Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Threads and Pinterest browsers as soon as the page starts loading. - Open the real browser
The same URL is handed to Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android.
- Fall back to one tap
If an app blocks the automatic switch, shoppers see a short prompt to open their browser. They can also stay where they are.
- Already in a real browser?
Nothing happens. A few pattern checks, then the script steps aside.
Your tracking comes along.
Shoppers land on the exact page they tapped, with every parameter intact.
UTM tags, discount codes, affiliate IDs and ad click IDs like fbclid and ttclid are passed through as they are. Your analytics see a normal visit.
Light by design.

When an app says no, shoppers are one tap away.
Social apps change their rules often. Escape the Link always tries the automatic switch first and keeps a clear prompt ready for when it's blocked, so a link never dead-ends.
The prompt matches the shopper's phone: Safari wording on iPhone, Google Pay and Chrome on Android. Available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal).
See what it brings in.
Your Escape the Link dashboard shows how many shoppers were moved, the orders they placed and the revenue behind them, by app.
Counted with a Shopify web pixel that sends totals only, never names, emails or addresses. Where cookie consent applies, only shoppers who accept analytics are counted.
| App | Moved | Orders | In-app visits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 812 | 61 | 2,140 | |
| 301 | 24 | 1,050 | |
| TikTok | 171 | 12 | 712 |

Questions
Something else on your mind? Contact support
Do I need to change my ad or bio links?
No. Escape the Link runs on your store, so every existing link is covered: ads, link-in-bio tools, stories, DMs and posts. Keep using your current URLs.
Will it slow down my store?
In a regular browser it does a few pattern checks on the user agent and stops. There's no extra network request. The prompt script is only downloaded inside in-app browsers.
What if Instagram blocks the automatic switch?
Shoppers see a short prompt to open the page in Safari or Chrome with one tap, or to continue where they are. Each shopper is only redirected automatically once per session, so nobody gets stuck in a loop.
Does it work on Android?
Yes. On Android, shoppers are moved to Chrome or their default browser, and the prompt mentions Google Pay instead of Apple Pay.
Does it collect customer data?
No. The results pixel sends the type of event, which app the shopper came from and, for orders, the total and currency. No names, emails, addresses, or customer, order or device identifiers. It follows your store's cookie consent settings.
Can I turn it off for some apps?
Yes. In settings, choose which apps to handle and whether to open the browser automatically or always ask first. You can also pause Escape the Link without removing it from your theme.
Send every social shopper to the checkout that works.
Install Escape the Link, switch it on in your theme, and your next ad click lands in Safari.
